The WATCH MY DYING story
- a band which paint the present -
The Watch My Dying founded in 1999 in Esztergom, Hungary. Their main goal was to mix modern death/thrash metal with progressive elements and spectacular live performances. After forming, the band started to play live and in March, 2000 they made their first recording in Pont-Mi Studio in Székesfehérvár.
System Error (Rendszerhiba) demo included 5 tracks, included an intro and an outro.
The critiques in the Hungarian magazines (Metal Hammer, Rockinform, Shock!) and the feedback in the underground metal scene exceeded their expectations. Soon afterwards, they made a mini tour with Dark Clouds and Born 33 which was quite instructive and they improved a lot. In the May of 2000, the band entered for the Pepsi Generation Nexxt talent spotting where they took the 4th place of the 600 entrants in their category. The spotting program was televised by the biggest Hungarian television channel, RTL Klub, as a result of which the bands name became well-known almost everywhere in the country. The group performed at Est FM Radio much in connection with the competition and also won the radios special prize. They received an invitation from Music Box and some other regional television channels.
In the summer of 2000, they played at the Wanted Festivals talent spotting and made live shows with bands like Cadaveres De Tortugas, Strong Deformity and Christian Epidemic. Meanwhile, the boys wrote several new tunes which were played in the summer of 2001 at the Fesztergom, Gaja, Hegyalja and the Slovakian Klikk Festival. The seasons closing session was a fantastic live show on the Pepsi Sziget Festival (the biggest in Central Europe) in August. Watch My Dying did an amazing show with special sceneries such as a Far Eastern fighting performance in front of a thousand fanatics who could hardly keep on waiting for the one-week festivals last band.
In the fall of 2001, they made a full underground metal tour with Born 33 and Wackor and played some shows in Slovakia. The gigs were really great as the result of the festival shows.
From the March of 2002 a manager started to work together with the band. Which resulted a lot more concert and more professional approach, than before. Among a tons of club and festival (Sziget, ZED, Summerground, Fesztergom, etc) performances. The highlights of the new period was the Hegyalja Festival where they reached a thousand people and presented a frenetic show.
After the festival season the band got their energy together and started to finished the writing of the new songs of their next EP (Fleshmagnet/Húsmágnes). Then on the 5th of September they entered to the Acoustair Studio, Budapest to record the new material. The WMD spent altogether 2 weeks in the studio, which resulted a very energetic and powerful material. On the other hand the whole Watch My Dying's conception became more varied and catchy. With the titles such Original Bodyform or Magnetic Flesh the band reached a new level of the their hard progression music. The 7 songs of the EP in 27 minutes are a fine example of a pure modern metal, one that possesses sheer aggression, technical wit, intelligent lyrics and a catchy song writing approach.
The Hungarian version of the EP (Húsmágnes) released in November in self production. The criticisms were surprisingly positive: in the Metal Hammer the EP gets 10/10, in the heavymetal.hu 10/10, in the Shock webzine 9/10, in the metalnews webzine 10/10.
